AMRAVATI: The twin towns of Paratwada and Achalpur, about 60 kms from Amravati district headquarters, remained tense after some miscreants damaged a Hanuman temple in Paratwada on late Friday night.Two persons accused in the case have been arrested by the Paratwada police. The said temple, which is believed to be about five decades old, is situated near a crematorium.According to information, three suspected miscreants damaged the temple and parts of the Hanuman idol.
The incident came to light on Saturday morning when devotees visited the temple and found extensive damage caused to the temple and the idol. Sources alleged that the idol was damaged to the extent that its parts were strewn across the temple.
Following the incident, Achalpur and Paratwada observed a total bandh, with educational institutions remaining closed on Saturday.When contacted, Paratwada police personnel said that the suspected accused, were believed to be in an inebriated state before plundering the place.The police have arrested Manoj Khandelwal and Gopal Nandwanshi—both of whom habitual ganja addicts, police added.
